The Marin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District and the Town of San Anselmo have agreed to jointly fund and oversee the rehabilitation of Building Bridge 2 (BB2), clearing the path for the town's long-planned Creek Park Plaza development in downtown San Anselmo.
Under the partnership, the Town will manage the rehabilitation project and construction, while the Flood Control District will provide funding for structural repairs from the County's general fund. The Town will cover the cost of plaza improvements on the property. A structural engineering evaluation determined that repairs and reinforcement must be completed before the area can reopen for public use.
The BB2 rehabilitation advances the Town's broader Creek Park Plaza vision, which aims to reconnect San Anselmo Avenue with Creek Park, expand space for community gatherings and events, support downtown businesses, and create a central public gathering place. A lease allowing limited public use of the structure was approved earlier this year, subject to safety confirmation.
The specific cost of structural work remains unknown as the Town continues developing the project scope. District staff anticipate bringing a cooperative funding agreement to the District Board of Supervisors for consideration in early 2027, once construction costs are determined.
The Town presented updated Creek Park Plaza concepts to the Town Council as part of a planning process shaped by extensive community participation since a community advisory committee was established in 2019. District 2 Supervisor Brian Colbert said the partnership represents progress on a long-standing goal. "After years of planning, public engagement and problem-solving, we can look ahead and see a real path toward creating the kind of downtown gathering place our community has imagined for years," Colbert said.
