Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has secured an emergency court order ensuring that a newborn identified as Gabriel received life-saving surgery for a serious heart condition.
According to the Attorney General's office, the order prevented anyone from withholding medically necessary treatment or removing the child from the state while the case was pending. Paxton also sent letters to hospitals and medical providers reminding them of their obligations under state and federal law to provide medically necessary, life-sustaining care.
The child has received the necessary surgical care. Following the completion of the immediate medical intervention and achievement of the order's purpose, Paxton filed a notice dismissing the case.
