WK Kellogg Co. and General Mills Inc. have removed synthetic dyes from cereals served in schools, the result of settlements secured by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton following a months-long investigation.
The companies removed artificial food colorings from K-12 cereals in time for the start of the 2026 school year. Kellogg's is required to remove artificial dyes from all its cereals nationwide by the end of 2027, while General Mills agreed to remove them from its entire product portfolio by that date.
Cereals including Froot Loops and Trix now use alternative colorings derived from fruit and vegetable juices instead of synthetic dyes.
