The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced it is at least doubling the maximum size of its buyback operations for longer-dated securities, effective September 9, 2026.
The maximum size of each operation in the 10-year to 20-year and 20-year to 30-year sectors will increase from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation, the department said. The increase will remain in effect through November 4, 2026.
Treasury said the increase reflects strong demand in longer-dated securities from market participants. The department said it routinely receives "significant volume of high-quality offers" in these buyback operations.
Treasury will announce future buyback sizes at the next Quarterly Refunding, scheduled for November 4, 2026.
