Marin County has committed $600,000 in new funding toward the modernization of Stinson Beach Fire Station, one of the county's oldest public safety buildings, the Marin County Board of Supervisors authorized on August 18. The new allocation adds to a $100,000 county commitment made in 2023, bringing total county support to $600,000 of the project's estimated $14.7 million cost.
The fire station was built in 1949 in a converted garage and does not meet current seismic standards. The facility lacks adequate space for modern fire and emergency medical operations, training, community meetings, and patient care. The fire district serves Stinson Beach and surrounding coastal areas and responds to structure and wildland fires, medical emergencies, vehicle collisions, and natural disasters while providing mutual aid throughout coastal Marin.
The new funding is split evenly between the County's West Marin Infrastructure Fund and proceeds from the regional Measure W Transient Occupancy Tax. The Stinson Beach Fire Protection District has already secured $14.2 million in pledges and donations toward the project. The county's allocation closes the funding gap to begin Phase 1 of construction.
