California law enforcement recovered more than 8,500 stolen items valued at over $1 million and arrested 97 suspects during a nine-day nationwide organized retail crime blitz from August 1–9, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The California Highway Patrol joined more than 100 law enforcement agencies nationwide for the enforcement effort. Officers conducted coordinated operations at businesses and retail stores across the state, working with local and regional law enforcement partners to identify and apprehend suspects involved in organized retail theft.
The enforcement operations were conducted by the CHP's Organized Retail Crime Task Force, which was established in 2019. According to the CHP, the task force has conducted more than 4,700 investigations, resulting in more than 5,300 arrests and the recovery of more than 1.6 million stolen items valued at more than $76.6 million as of July 30.
During the blitz, CHP officers conducted enforcement across multiple regions. San Diego County operations on August 3, 5, and 7 resulted in 34 arrests and recovery of 174 items valued at $7,720.39. The Bakersfield/Turlock area operations on August 1, 5, 7, and 8 resulted in 23 arrests and recovery of 3,887 items valued at $723,175.53. Bay Area operations on August 4, 5, and 6 resulted in 11 arrests and recovery of 128 items valued at $54,569.21. Pasadena and North Hills area operations on August 5, 6, 7, and 8 resulted in 17 arrests and recovery of 4,270 items valued at $263,405.80. Roseville, Lodi, and Stockton area operations on August 4, 5, 6, and 7 resulted in 12 arrests and recovery of 42 items valued at $1,454.63.
In the first seven months of 2026, the CHP made nearly 350 retail theft arrests and recovered more than 72,500 stolen items worth an estimated $6.7 million, according to the agency.
