Indiana's State Board of Finance approved the second round of reimbursements to compensate local governments for revenue lost during Governor Mike Braun's temporary gas tax holiday.

The board approved $130,450,219.59 for the suspension period between June 1 and June 30. Of this amount, local units of government will receive $43,805,267.02. The reimbursements will restore funding to the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund, the Local Road and Street Fund, and the Local Road and Bridge Matching Fund.

The Indiana State Comptroller's Office began processing payments immediately following the board's action. Local government partners will receive reimbursements within 2 to 3 days of processing. Reimbursement amounts for each local unit follow the same statutory formulas used for regular monthly distributions.

The Gas Tax Holiday temporarily suspended the Gasoline Excise Tax and Gas Use Tax collections, which ordinarily provide the primary source of monthly roadway funding for local governments. Other statutory Motor Vehicle Highway and Local Road and Street revenue streams continue on normal schedules.

State Comptroller Elise Nieshalla said the office was committed to processing the reimbursements accurately. "This second distribution reflects the additional days included in the reimbursement window, providing local governments with the full roadway funding they would have collected during that time," she said.
