A 20-by-60-foot hay storage structure caught fire at 11:41 p.m. on August 16 at an equestrian facility near the intersection of North 55th Street and Niwot Road in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado. The smaller office building on the property also caught fire.
A small shed, an empty grain silo, and a Conex storage container were also damaged in the incident. Deputies and firefighters from multiple agencies evacuated nearby occupied structures on the property as a precaution and helped relocate horses from the facility.
No people or animals were injured. Firefighters established control of the incident quickly enough that neighboring residences did not need to be evacuated. North 55th Street remains closed as fire crews continue suppression and monitoring of a large haystack that ignited during the incident.
The Multi-Agency Fire Investigation Team has been notified and will conduct an investigation. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. Agencies assisting in the response included the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Boulder Fire Rescue, Boulder Rural Fire Rescue, Lefthand Fire, and Mountain View Fire Rescue.
