JACKSON, Miss. –Governor Tate Reeves today announced the appointment of Renee McBride Porter of Columbia to the Office of Chancellor for the 10th Chancery Court District.
This appointment fills a vacancy created on August 16, 2026, due to the retirement of the Honorable Chase Ford Morgan.
“Renee has devoted her career to serving Mississippi families and children,” said Governor Reeves. “Her experience in chancery and youth court matters, combined with her commitment to public service, makes her exceptionally qualified to serve the people of the 10th Chancery Court District.”
Porter currently serves as youth court referee and special master of Marion County.
Prior to her appointment as youth court referee, Porter served for more than 12 years as guardian ad litem in Marion County, advocating for the best interests of children in court proceedings.
Porter has been in private practice in Columbia since 1989, focusing on chancery court matters.
She has extensive trial and appellate experience, arguing successful appeals before both the Mississippi Court of Appeals and the Mississippi Supreme Court.
Prior to being appointed youth court referee, she served as the city prosecutor for Columbia.
Porter earned her J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law and her B.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Porter’s appointment will begin on August 17, 2026, and she will fill the remainder of the four-year term.
