Twenty-Two Alleged Members of Folk Nation Gang Charged in Conspiracy Indictment That Includes 33 Criminal Acts

Alleged Gang Members Charged With 26 Shootings Including One Homicide, 12 Non-Fatal Shootings in Brooklyn and Manhattan With 23 Victims

Since Taking Office, Governor Hochul Has Invested Nearly $4 Billion in Public Safety and Quadrupled Funding for District Attorneys

Governor Kathy Hochul and Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, together with New York City Police Commissioner Jessica S.

Tisch, today announced that 23 alleged members of a Brooklyn-based gang have been charged in a 176-count indictment with conspiracy to commit murder, weapons possession, and many other related offenses.

The defendants, who were arraigned yesterday in Brooklyn Supreme Court, are charged in connection with 26 shootings, including one homicide and 12 non-fatal shootings across Brooklyn and Manhattan that resulted in 23 victims.

Since taking office, Governor Hochul has prioritized public safety and made record investments in law enforcement, including quadrupling funding for District Attorneys from $41 million to $183 million, to ensure they have the tools needed to keep guns off our streets, reduce crime, and keep New Yorkers safe.

“Keeping New Yorkers safe is my top priority.

That is why I have invested nearly $4 billion in law enforcement and public safety — investments that empower our local police departments and District Attorneys to investigate and prosecute those who threaten our communities,”Governor Hochul said. “This indictment is proof that when we give our law enforcement partners the tools they need, crime declines and New Yorkers are safer.”

District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said, “These alleged gang members are responsible for dozens of separate shootings and other acts of violence all across Brooklyn and beyond, with 23 victims, including one fatality.

The type of wanton shootings alleged in this indictment will not be tolerated as the NYPD and my office are committed to targeting the crews and trigger pullers that cause the most harm in our communities.

The consistent support we have been receiving from Governor Hochul has helped in conducting strategic takedowns such as this, which play a key role in the historic drop in gun violence across Brooklyn.”

NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said, “The 22 alleged gang members indicted today are responsible for 26 shootings that left 23 people victimized, including one person killed. The NYPD continues to drive down crime and shooting incidents to record lows because we continue to dismantle gangs, remove guns from our streets, and hold criminals accountable, just as we are doing in this case.

I thank the men and women of the NYPD’s Gun Violence Suppression Division for doing the important and dangerous work of taking down violent crews, and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office for their partnership in pursuing justice.”

This indictment is the result of a long-term investigation by the District Attorney’s Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau and the NYPD’s Gun Violence Suppression Division into violence allegedly committed by two subsets of the Folk Nation street gang beginning in October 2022.

The individuals named in the indictment are variously charged with second- and fourth-degree conspiracy, second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

All but five defendants are charged with attempted murder for allegedly pulling the trigger during a shooting, and have been remanded or held on high bail.

“Keeping New Yorkers safe is my top priority.

That is why I have invested nearly $4 billion in law enforcement and public safety — investments that empower our local police departments and District Attorneys to investigate and prosecute those who threaten our communities”

Since taking office, Governor Hochul has invested nearly $4 billion in public safety initiatives to provide record support for local and state law enforcement that has contributed to gun violence reaching record lows, reduced subway crime and combated pandemic-era surges in motor vehicle and retail thefts.

In New York City, major crime is downnearly six percent from the same period last year.

Murders are down 24 percent and burglaries are down 17 percent.

In Brooklyn, murders are down 30 percent and shooting incidents are down 15 percent.

TheGovernor’s FY27 Enacted Budget adds more than $900 million to those record investments, tackling the scourge of illegal 3D-printed ghost guns and DIY machine guns, investing in new crime-fighting technology, and supporting law enforcement officers.

These efforts, along with common-sense changes to the state’s bail, discovery and gun laws secured by the Governor, have helped make New York one of the safest large states in the country.

State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton said, “In Brooklyn and across our entire city, residents and visitors deserve to feel safe and protected from the threat of gang and gun violence.

I am grateful that Governor Hochul and District Attorney Gonzalez are prioritizing these efforts and continue investing into law enforcement and the tools they need to fight crime and keep our communities safe.”

State Senator Sam Sutton said,“I commend Governor Hochul, District Attorney Gonzalez, Commissioner Tisch, and the investigators whose work led to these charges.

No family should have to live in fear of gun or gang violence, and every step to remove illegal firearms from our streets helps protect innocent New Yorkers.

We must continue working together, committed and focused at every level of government to ensure our neighborhoods remain safe places where families can live and thrive.”

Assemblymember Nikki Lucas said,“It is critical that every dollar we invest in public safety translates into safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, and measurable results for the people we serve.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s $900 million public safety investment in the Fiscal Year 2027 State Budget demonstrates a clear commitment to reducing violence and providing communities with the resources needed to prevent crime before it occurs.

This historic investment strengthens our ability to protect families, hold dangerous offenders accountable, and improve quality of life across New York.

I applaud the Governor for making public safety a priority and for recognizing that safe communities are the foundation of economic growth and opportunity.

I also commend District Attorney Eric Gonzalez for his steadfast leadership, unwavering pursuit of justice, and continued efforts to ensure that victims and their families receive the accountability they deserve.”
